Updating Inventor
Unfortunately not. You would have to export the files to a neutral format such as STP or IGEs and then import into the older version of Inventor.
Inventor 2018 and Inventor 2017 sp4 will allow for file interchange .
If you are a student yo can get the new version through the Education Licenses.
Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Yes you can go to here and request the 2015 version.
But you should download and install the application using these steps (after you make the request and the serial # is issued to you):
Download and install per:
1. Access the Autodesk Virtual Agent and follow the download links to your product.
2. Download all of the parts (some applications only have a single part to download) for your product first. Do not continue until all of the parts have fully downloaded.
3. Navigate to your download folder location and extract (double click) part _001_00X.sfx.exe (or the single file download).
4. In a few seconds the extraction will start and prompt you to extract to C:\Autodesk.
5. Once the extraction is finished, the installation will automatically start.
6. Follow the installation steps for your product

2018 just came out but since it is.... oops..
How is the user out of luck? They want 2016 they already have 2015..

Here I made fun of @mcgyvr about the user was out of luck about 2015 and then I just realized my posting also said they could request 2015.. Must be @mcgyvr was asleep at the wheel because I know he would've caught that and poked fun right back at me... 
@Anonymous Just go and request 2016 and then follow the steps above to install your software.

Go to the Autodesk Virtual Agent to download 2016.
If you are a student - you can then go to the Autodesk Student Community to get your Serial Number for 2016.
Thanks for the help, I did run into some problems though. I got to here but cant get past it. Every time I click install this comes up.

Do you still have 2015 running on your computer? If so it needs to be closed.. What you downloaded isn't an "upgrade package" its the full program and all versions of Inventor must be closed for you to install another one..
If you swear its closed then try restarting your computer and trying to run the install again..

I swear it said school = 2015 and home = 2016 and he wanted to go back to 2015..
OH well.. head in the clouds (actually in a cloud of soldering smoke).. I'm trying out a new "Ultra Heavy Duty" soldering station from Hakko today..
