Unresolved Links in template

I have basically created a template file for a configurator.

First of all, i went to the location of the template file on the server drive, i right clicked and selected open. It asked me to resolve the links for the sub assemblies (even though i just had to press okay over and over again as it was looking in the correct place?). Now if i close the file and do the same again, (right click the .iam and select open), it doesn't ask me to resolve the links, great!

Here's the problem, when i open it through inventor (by clicking new in the top left and actually selecting the template) it will always ask me to resolve the links! Any ideas on how i can prevent this?

The parts/sub assemblies used are in different locations on the same network drive, and the referenced parts cannot be moved to one place as there are many other assemblies that use these same locations.

Hello @Lewis.Young!

It sounds like you might have an issue with your Project file.

You would want to make sure that the template file and the associated files are all in the work areas defined by your project file - if the sub assembly is on a network server or outside of your working folder, it will not look beyond those areas defined by your project file.  So add the folder where your files and/or template are located to your Project file and try again.

Hope this helps,

Kenny

Not a proper method of opening files with Inventor. Always open Inventor first and make sure that you are using the correct Project File, then open the file through Inventor.

As posted, make sure that your Project File has all the correct paths to support the location of your Work files as well as any supporting library folders. Since Inventor can be set to use the "default" location for templates in the Project File, or to user specified locations as designated within the Project File.

@kennyj @blair Cheers for the help guys. Yeah it turns out some of the components being used weren't in the same location as the project files workspace.
