2018 lightning bolt next to browser folder

So.. Whats this lightning bolt supposed to tell me?

It only shows up next to the folder.. No parts in that folder show any lightning bolt.. No "popup" comes along with that lightning bolt telling me anything?
I'll assume its some "needs updating" yet thats certainly not the case here..

I'd suspect if I close the model and reopen it that will be gone (and I just closed an reopened and the lightning bolt is gone.. of course)..

No "dirty bits" showing for that assembly..

@mcgyvr

As far as I know there was a change to the lightning bolt status in the drawing browser for Inventor 2018 but I didn't think there was any change to other file types.

Hi Brian,

The lightning bolt shows that the particular folder or particular document needs to be updated. The update has not happened yet. It is pending. So, the files should not be dirtied yet.

Many thanks!

You could enable a browser search & then use the "Filter out of date files" to try to find out if there's a specific component needing an update.

So I "rebuild all" over 10 times trying to get it to go away, generated members, performed save after save after save and the only thing that make it go away was simply closing the file and reopening it again.. And there was zero indication of what actually needed to be updated (no lightning bolt or anything next to any of the parts in that folder.. Just me stuck looking at some lightning bolt next to a folder that would never go away..

Whats the trick to get it to actually "update" or what mind reading/Jedi trick am I missing here?

Or better.. When I see that in the future.. How do I make it go away and "happy" again?

@ChrisMitchell01 Brings me to another issue.. I tried browser search and notice it doesn't work properly with virtual components.. I searched for a string that has NOTHING to do with the virtual part and it showed that it found that based on the top level assembly description.. Thats the description of the 8271001001 top level assembly yet its somehow relating that to the virtual part..

ohh.. and in attempting to show that issue I see the lightning bolt is back and is now showing that the virtual component is what needs updating..

And I have no idea how to get it to update..

Let me "try" to attach the image (this site is SLOW for me today)

lightning2 and search.png

I properties for that virtual part.. still stuck as a lightning bolt too. no matter what I do..

@ChrisMitchell01 Ok.. here may be a clue..

I did your suggestion to "filter out of date" it said "No Search Results" yet the lightning bolt was still there..

BUT I found out how to get it to go away (the only way I've found so far).. I simply dragged its position in that folder and bam... lightning bolt gone..

Interesting....we'll do some further investigations with virtual components.

Thanks

OK - Apparently this is a known issue currently being investigated; virtual components in folders are sometimes shown as needing update; your workaround fixes it.

Thanks

@ChrisMitchell01 Ok.. good to know.. I guess..

Now.. Lets move on to more important things Smiley Wink..

I run into "corrupt" style library and numerous other issues related to that basically year after year (Started with the big change in 2013 from colors to appearances,etc..)

I've got appearances stuck in materials.. stuff I can't delete no matter what I do and other weird stuff..

I'd love to put this stuff to bed once and for all.. I typically spend about 2-3 days "monkeying" around with each new release trying to get through this style stuff..

The change to appearances was and always has been a nightmare.  One of the absolute worst things AutoDesk did.  It has never been very functional.  I would love to go back to inventor 2012 just to get the old color scheme back.  It's worth it to me to lose the few other enhancements released since then.  None of those have really been a benefit; at least not enough to outweigh the disaster called appearances (Except multi-part sheet metal; that would be missed.)
