Unable to open certain layout files

Hi,

I'm not able to open a layout file in Inventor even after "getting" it from Vault with all its dependents.

Although, the files does appear in my local working folder, but when I try to open in Inventor, the "SEVERITY_ERROR" appears. I also tried to install the Visual C++ hotfix to resolve this severity error issue, but the file still does not open.

One thing I observed is that unlike other files which I can open, when I "get" this layout file from Vault, the Vault Status icon does not change to white circle. It remains a green circle, which indicates "local file modified". I'm not sure if this might be root cause.

I'd really appreciate if someone shares how to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
Prateek

Firstly, whenever you see a similar error with the word "database" in it, you can guarantee that more than 99% of cases are file corruption. Therefore you should try Getting the previous version from Vault (file History, "get" on a previous row/version there) or see if your local disk workspace has any good copies under _V or /OldVersion folders within the same location.

Secondly, to make sure you are getting the latest file version from Vault, you could try deleting the local workspace copy before the "get" is used, or simply change your Get operation to "force-overwrite" the local copies:

Thanks. Actually, I requested the engineer who last updated the file to re-check in file to Vault. It somehow resolved the issue, and now the file opens perfectly.
