Tube and pipe routes and how to delete them!?

hi guys,

i am currently running inventor 21 and i am teaching myself routing rather than modelling tube runs.

i am trying to connect tubing between various hose tails so its a bit of trial and error to see what i can get to fit where.

after setting out a few runs, i find that a few clash so i have redone them to suit, and i now dont have the option to delete the unneeded runs.

i open my top level tube and pipe assembly, select the run i want to delete, but 'delete run' is greyed out.

at the minute i have suppressed the run which i dont want so i cant continue to work, but thats only hiding my issue.

as i have said though, i have attempted to teach myself routing as i am profficient in solidworks (i know, boo hiss) routing and thought it would be similar enough so i absolutely dont know all the tips and tricks so it could very be something obvious.

any ideas guys?

Hi, Chris... Chris here.  🙂

So... how exactly are you attempting to delete these runs?  Is it the entire run that you want to delete, or just portions of it which you have rerouted?

Also, did you know that flexible runs, like hoses, can be manipulated for clearance around others without having to redo the route?  You can add nodes to the sketch and manually drag the route to new positions... it's tedious but it can be done  Admittedly, I mainly worked with rigid pipe design, but I did hoses occasionally.

Hi Chris!

i am in the top level tubing assembly and i want to delete a specific run of tube.

At the time of creating the runs, i didnt know how to modify the end point of the route which is why i have ended up with multiple similar routes, although i did know i could add and manipulate the nodes.

If you activate the individual tube RUN, are there multiple ROUTES beeath it?  Could you share a screen shot of your browser, kind of focused in on the structure of one of theruns you are working with?

yeah there are multiples routes created within the assembly, i have attached a quck screen grab for you.

Thanks for the image... I think if you activate that run, and delete the individual hose from there,... it should work.  From the top level T&P assembly, you would not be able to get one piece of a sub-run like that.  For example, activate Run 01, and the right click on Flexible Hose 01... does it give you the Delete option now?

when i open the T&P assembly and select a run, the 'Delete run' option is greyed out.

if i open an individual run, i can delete the tube so the sub assembly is empty, this leaves the empty sub assembly in the top level though so not entirely what i am looking for. 

it seems as though it should be really easy and for what ever reason i just dont have the 'delete run' option?

Is there any chance that you could share the design?  Use the Pack and Go option to get all of the files and assemblies all zipped up.  If you don't want to share it publicly, you could send it directly to me.

In your pack and go, I was not able to reproduce the problem.... if I double click on Tube & Pipe Runs to activate it, and then right click on any of the runs, I am able to see the Delete Run.  And, if I double click on a Run to activate it, I was able to see Delete on the Flexible Hoses underneath that... I'm not sure why this is not working on your end.

From your last image you are attempting to delete run assemblies in the opened T&P main assembly. The runs can only be deleted in the context of the main assembly with the T&P main assembly activated for edit by double clicking. This is by design.
