Tube & Pipe BOM

I have a BOM with 2 different pipe diameters. ½" & 1"

The ½" pipe has several differing lengths and the BOM groups these together. I can use QTY column to show the total length of pipe needed. In this case 9235mm (note the zero decimal place precision)

The 1" pipe has only one length. The BOM behaves as above but with one difference, the precision of the total length shows 3 decimal places

i.e. 724,000 mm

If I split the 1" pipe into 2 then the precision shows as 724mm.

Apart from editing the value how do I show the length of 1" pipe to zero decimal places. 724mm

Although you say BOM you really mean Parts Lists on the drawing? or is it that you are looking at parts only in the BOM?

In the drawing Parts List you can override the formated lenght.

Here's more info

If it's the BOM you worry about then you need to change formatting of the PL parameter and you better do that in Content Center first, but you can force that on generated parts with ilogic if there are too many to edit.

Here's more info. Keep in mind that this will edit G_L (generated length) of structural shapes but can be applied to pipes.

If this doesn't help, give us more info and some images of the problem.

Thanks Adrain,

Yes my mistake, I mean drawing parts list.

I had already tried your suggestion but it doesn't work on the single item pipe length.

Screen shot below.

Note - some of those items are suppressed i.e 47,48, 71, 71 & 69

See how item 61 remains at 714.000 mm yet the gathered items 1 - 46 are shown as 9235 mm

In the Subsitution tab of QTY formating, under Display click the lower icon which means Do Not Show Trailing Zeros.

Also check the Column Format tab (not the substitution tab) and see what the settings are there regarding precision, units and trailig zeros.

using the formating on the parts list has done it for me in the past.

The next steps you should not need but if above fails.....some extra info:

Open one of the pipes and check Documet Settings, BOM tab and tell me what you have there as the reported length (PL? or different)

Also give me a screenshot of the parameters window for that pipe of the reported length parameter.

Thanks for your reply Adrian.

Screenshots below.

I cannot change the column formatt setting, I use default. If I change this then other items will lose there quantity settings.

Have you tried removing the trailing zeros? In parts list, QTY formating, Substitution tab?

if that doesn't work then you need to change formatting for the PL parameter.

Yes, it still doesn't change the single pipe length.

I must admit I am not getting this error (have just testes).

Attach the pipe (just that pipe, nothing else) here please.

meanwhile I have attached a new Material List style. Even if it's created in 2015 I hope it works for you. Import it and use it in to your drawing. See if this changes the display.

I thought you use 2013 as your signature indicates.

The file was done in 2016?

You just found a bug ! Well done...

Let's involve some Adesk: @dan_szymanski , @Yijiang.Cai

What I have found is that because you seem to have authored this pipe yourself you have forgot to mark the PL as export parameter, or it must have lost this option.

Dan and Cai if you place the pipe down bellow in an assembly and you create a parts list (material list, you can use my attached style, previous post) you will notice that the reported lenght does not retain the column format options like remove trailing zeros.

If you open the pipe (any pipe for that matter) and you take off Export Parameter (just tick it off on PL) you get the default formatting and the Parts List formating has no effect.

In my opinion formating of Parts List should not be affected by Eport option on that parameter.

Not sure what you mean by this all I did was populate the route in the same manner as the rest of the pipes. I never edit any parameters. Not something I understand.

But I thank you for your time & patience.

The quick solve for you is to open the pipe, and tick Export on PL in Parameters.

See if this works it for you.

Accepted solution

Find that pipe in the drawing or assembly and open it.

Click on Parameters on the Mange tab. On the right side of PL you will see a column called Export Parameter. Click the box, then click OK in the Parameters window and save the part.

Switch to the drawing and see if the Parts List reports correct lenght now.

Yes Thanks Adrian that has done it.

I hadn't expanded the parameter box initially so I couldn't see the export portion of it.

Many thanks.
