Try edit 2d sketch: cursor selecting other objects, ignore sketch objects

What am I doing wrong, please.  I start editing my 2d sketch and the cursor wants to select other objects under the sketch, and not the points and lines that I have created in the sketch.  It is actually selecting and highlighting everything else, and completely ignoring everything in my sketch.

If you refer to the picture, you can see the WHITE outline around the OTHER object outside of my sketch, that the cursor is highlighting.

Very frustrated, please advise.

Have you tried Shift + Right Click +Select Sketch Features, to restrict your selection to the sketch only?

Hi! If I understood the issue correctly, this is due to the default Auto-Project behaviors. Go to Tools -> Application Options -> Sketch -> there are a few "Auto-Project" options -> uncheck them -> Ok.

Does it work better now?

Many thanks!

Hello.  I want to thank everyone for replies, as the information is useful.

If my memory serves correct, I believe my problem was solved by the universal cure: 1) Close Inventor for the night 2) re-opening the next day after a nap - 3) delete original sketch 4) re-creating the sketch.

Hi! For this particular case, restarting or deleting sketch may not help. It is because when the mouse cursor hovers over geometry, it will automatically be projected to the sketch due to the Auto-Project options. These options help new users to reference geometry in a sketch more easily. But, it can also clutter the sketch with a lot of projected geometry.

Many thanks!
