Troubles with mirror command in 2021

Anonymous
Not applicable

Just installed 2021 and have been using it since yesterday.

Wanted to mirror a part today and I could not.

My co-workers tried a few parts each and it seemed to be hit of miss if a part could be mirrored or not.

I am sure we are missing something simple but I could always mirror parts in 2019.

Any tips or advice?

Attach file here that exhibits this behavior.

Have you installed the Updates?

Hi Mario,

I am not aware of a systematic failure like this. Is this about Mirror Component or Mirror Feature/Body? Please make sure you install 2021.2 update. Feel free to share an example that exhibits the behavior.

Many thanks!

See pic below showing my about Inventor info, seems I am at 2021 Rel 2.

Attached is a zip file of an 2021 assembly with the part in question in it. Tried mirroring the part in that assy but no go.

I have other issues with Inventor. There was an enterprise update to inventor 2021 and it did not go that well.

First thing I noticed is that you started with a Derived Component - but did not include that file in the attachment.

I could mirror, but got incorrect results.

So I remodeled the part from scratch.

In the process of reverse-engineering your part I found what I considered to be several dimension anomalies.

I went ahead and used these "strange" dimensions, but when I see these it makes me wonder about the original component.

My new part mirrored just fine. (see Attached)

I can mirror the part in the assy you sent me but not in any others.

Some setting is messed up somewhere in the only thing I can guess.

I could mirror anything anywhere in 2019 but all of a sudden lose functionality in 2021

If I put my part in your assy I can mirror your part but not mine.

It appears to me that you mirrored the body in part file, not component in Assembly file.

You mirrored features in a part file like JD said.

I need to mirror a part in an assy file.

In version 2020 i can't open the project
But in version 2021 I only removed the broken link in .ipt file + make mirroring in part doc and add the components to the assembly + make mirroring in assy doc
Correct ?

Hi Mario,

I think I know where the issue is. This particular sheet metal part is actually a Content Center part. By default, CC part does not allow mirror (to avoid duplicate of contents). It can only be reused. But, it can be overridden. In the Mirror Component dialog, expand the dialog -> uncheck "Reuse CC part." Then you should be able to change the orange plus (Reuse) icon to the green (Create New). After that, it can be mirrored.

Many thanks!

May be looking in the wrong place but do not see that option in the dialog box.

Never had any issue in 2019, CC part or otherwise. All our parts are CC parts now.

See mirror dialog box pic attached

Thanks JD but that makes no difference on my machine.

Also repeat why is the functionality different than 2019?

Your image does not show the correct option settings.

In fact, it shows the incorrect option settings.

You must uncheck as shown in my image and you must click to change to green...

You might have to click twice (each click selects a different Status - note that there are 3 possible states).

@johnsonshiue @JDMather

We are just getting ready to switch over from 2020 to 2021. I have already upgraded the Vault pro server. I have also created many of our deployments. I am currently working on projects in 2021 INV pro (up to date on "dots"). I came across the mirror dialogue window today and noticed some differences. One being It doesn't remember to leave the reuse standard content and factory parts box unchecked on part 1 of the mirror command. On part 2 where you "name" your new mirrored parts, columns have been added and I cant seem to remove them or customize the window. The column I want to get rid of is "Display Name". The display name in our business has always equaled the file name. This added column has added a level on confusion and with it being editable mistakes are going to happen. Is there anything I can do to fix this?? Where you see the "delete" text would normally be a -R for right version and the parent would have a -L for left version.
