Trouble Importing ACAD Dwg into Inventor

Hi,

I am having trouble importing an AutoCAD drawing into Inventor. Both the Insert ACAD and simply copy/pasting do not work. There is no error message that displays. Rather, Inventor simply loads and nothing displays.

I am using Inventor Professional 2025 and AutoCAD 2025. It seems to be a problem with a new Windows update. For reference, I am running Windows 11 Education Version 24H2.

Hi! I suspect Inventor has trouble starting up Real DWG component on your machine. Go to File Explorer and find "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\RealDWG Shared 2025." Is it empty? Right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "Run as Admin." Then import the dwg file to Inventor again. If it still fails, log on to manage.autodesk.com and download "RealDWG 2025.1.1 64-Bit Update" and install it.

The last thing to try is to uninstall AutoCAD and Inventor. Reinstall them one-by-one.

Many thanks!

@25sieglerh

Can you Attach an example dwg file here that does not work for testing?

Autodesk must be the only company in existence that has trouble importing their own files, but this issue has been there for 25 years. Rest assured, they will never fix it!

Copying and pasting simple lines and circles into sketches should work fine however, just avoid things like dimensions and blocks.

Hi Brett,

I am not aware of any systematic failure of importing AutoCAD dwg files to Inventor. If you have a case demonstrating the behavior, please share it here. I would like to understand the defective behavior better.

Many thanks!

Hi,

We installed the update and tried reinstalling AutoCAD and Inventor. However, the problem still exists. I attached a sample part for reference, but it is an issue for all.

Hi! Please share the dwg file here. I would like to try it on my machine. In the meantime, please go to File Explorer and check if the following folder is empty.

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\RealDWG Shared 2025

The folder stores the necessary components that facilitate reading and writing dwg in Inventor.

Many thanks!

Hello, I'm not sure if you have the exact problem I had, but it's worth the try.

I followed the steps in this article, but the location of the file was different on my pc. On my pc I entered the following in the command prompt: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\dwgviewrAcctrl.dll"

Hope this helps.

Hi,

I checked the folder and it is not empty. Here is a sample drawing file that will not import.

Hi! I have no trouble importing it to 2025.2.1. The result is a 3D sketch with 4 horizontal line.

Many thanks!
