Trouble copying associative parts in assembly

I am trying to copy a part in assembly to another part so that I can reference it robustly. When I do this I receive a message that I have screen shotted. Any ideas how to get past this?

Hi! You may want to check something. Open the part you are trying to copy to and go to Tools -> Document Settings -> Modeling. Is the "Adaptively Used in Assembly" option checked? If yes, the behavior is correct because Adaptive part can only be adaptive in one assembly. Otherwise, the part definition will be conflicting.

does that mean I can only copy the part into another part one time?

Hi Oliver,

I guess you misunderstood my comments. The source part can be copied multiple times to other parts within the assembly. It is the receiving part having the limitation. The receiving part (adaptive part) can only be adaptive within an assembly, not multiple assemblies. Does it make sense?

Thanks for your help so far that makes more sense.

However I am confused why this part is not copying because it is NOT in a separate assembly. How could this be?

The behavior does not make sense to me. Either there is a bug or there is a limitation. Without seeing the files, I cannot tell. Could you share the files with me ([email protected])?
