Trim a Surface Function

Hi,

I am using Inventor 2020. I have created a Y style duct and I would like to trim the protrusions of the angled ends on the inside. I have attempted to use the Trim function in the Surface group of the 3D Model tab but with no luck. Can someone please explain how I can use it or suggest an alternative way to create the model I want. Thank you.

Regards,

Keith

It would be easiest to have the actual part to work with-- can you post it?

Easiest method, I think, is to extrude it all as solid, then shell to the proper thickness.  Another possibility is to extrude as solid, then use extrude again to remove the inner diameter, terminating at one of the origin planes.

The attached file (yours with modifications) is 2020 version.

Hi! Like Sam shows here, there are multiple ways to do this. You can also use Thicken/Offset command -> Intersect -> inward -> distance = 1in. Or, you use Thicken/Offset -> Surface -> pick the exterior faces -> inward -> distance = 1in. Then use Sculpt -> Cut -> pick the offset surface -> flip the cut direction.

Trim command is limited to surface to surface trimming.

Many thanks!

Something like this (see Attached), or are you attempting to model a sheet metal duct?
