Transparent Building in Render

I have an assembly consisting of a building and a facility inside.

I am trying to render an image with the building in transparent but the facility normal.

When ever I go into render no matter what I do the building will not be transparent.

I have tried making my building a single part with a transparent appearance assigned to it, this doesn't work, setting transparency in the model tree doesn't work.

Does anyone know a work around for this?

I'm running Inventor 2021.

How specifically is it not working?

Can you show us some images to help better understand the problem?

The building in rendering as a normal building, not as a transparent building.

Ok I am limited in what I can show, but as you can see the inventor image shows building as transparent, the second image shows the render view with the buildings normal.

Your parts are not transparent which is why they don't render that way.

You need to apply a transparent appearance from the drop down menu at the very top of your screen.

Using any other transparent option won't work.

You can also do this by setting up a view rep called something like 'transparent' in your assembly, using that override the parts with a to transparent appearance.

That way you can use that view rep to render and user the master view rep to show it normally coloured.

Hopefully this video explains it. Sorry the audio is quiet, the kids are in bed!

Many thanks that has worked, one other question is how do I get a sharper image of the internals of my buildings?

I can now see the internals through the buildings however the image isn't sharp?

Maybe try changing the refraction setting in the appearance? Or changing
the amount of transparency or glossy. The tool tip explains how glossy
works.
