If you render the image with Studio, you can save as a .png with alpha channel.  I'm on 2010 so I am not sure if this is an option using "Save Copy As" in 2011 or 2012.

Hi! Here is how you change document background.

In Inventor, go to Tools -> Application Options -> Colors -> Background -> Background image and point to a transparent "colored" image file.

Thanks!

That does not work, at least in 2012

Here is how it can be done.

Untitled with Transparent Background.png

Forgot to mention...

Save As Type must be set to PNG or another image type that supports Alpha Channels.

Bitmap (.bmp) files do not support alpha channels.

Of what? Open the png file in your photoediting tool of choice (photoshop,etc..) use the magic wand to remove the background and save as png

Hi freestyle4x4f150,

Here's a tip from Mark Flayler on out putting a PNG with a transparent background from Studio:

http://blogs.rand.com/manufacturing/2010/01/inventomizations-image-export-options.html

Also, your blank post is likely a result of a setting in IE9. If you set it to Compatibility Mode, it should fix it:

I hope this helps.

Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Curtis

As an addon to this is there a way to create a wall that will also output as an alpha channel so that only the shadows are captured in the render. Allowing the shadows to be usable in any background?

Going back to the original question (doesn't answer the question about shadows being captured), unless I'm missing something..
File -> Export -> Image
