Title Block Glitching

Hi,

this is probably the most annoying thing about Inventor for me right now.

every time i edit a single thing, or even open the file, it causes some glitch in the title block, even though they're assigned to the right parameter.

it reassigns it to the default values, and no matter how much i try, it still keeps happening. can someone explain why?
I'll insert an image of an example of title block entries reverting back to default values. Screenshot 2022-09-12 112902.png

I think with this amount of details no one will be able to tell you, where the mistake is.

Maybe you can attache an example of a drawing or give a more detailed description, what have you changed.

so, the image I inserted is for entries for drawn by, checked by, approved by. I have these filled out with the proper initials.

they're correctly linked in the title block definitions. however, when you save the file, or change something, it will randomly revert the initials I put in back to the default ''me'', ''you'' etc/

This is definitely abnormal behavior.  But you still haven't given enough information for anyone to diagnose the problem.

  • What version of Inventor?  What update level?
  • Are the title block fields getting their iProperties from the drawing file or from the model file?
  • Please share drawing and model files here that show this problem so someone can figure out what's happening

@rverghis

It'd also be really useful to know if you use Vault or similar management software and, if you do, whether you have the relevant files "checked-out" to you so you have proper write access to them, or if this is maybe occurring due to Vault trying to "write back" property info when checking them out.

1. This is Inventor 2021

2. the fields are to come from the model file

3. I can't share the drawings as they are proprietary drawings and I'm not allowed to post them unfortunately. eitherway, the point is that the fields are very volatile. they could work, they could not. just want to know if there's other people for whom this is a problem too.

I don't use vault. just Inventor .ipt and .dwg

There is nothing in Inventor itself that assigns a value like "ME" or "YOU" to those fields.  It would be hard to diagnose without sample files, but I suspect there is some sort of issue going on with an iLogic rule or some other type of custom automation.

Does it happen with ipt or iam or both?

Any macro/addin?

Is there a ipt/iam with "You" "Me" in it?

You can make a part with a 1" cube and make a drawing.

You can delete company name, iProperties, iLogic etc.

SAME EXACT THING is happening to me.  The process:

  1. Start new .ipt with my existing .ipt template
  2. Change iproperties, save part
  3. Open new .dwg template (not using .idw), title block in drawing template has fields linked to the .iam iProperties
  4. Insert model - fields update properly
  5. SAVE the drawing...and fields revert to the .dwg template iProperties!

My workaround is to open up the .dwg iProperties and change anything in there - I usually just hit the space bar in the comments section on the summary tab and apply.  Fields go back to what they should be (from the model).

NO IDEA why this happens.

Hi! The behavior does not make sense to me. A few places to check. Open the drawing and go to Tools -> Doc Settings ->Drawing -> Copy Model iProperty Settings. Is there any box checked? Do you have an iLogic rule running behind the scene in the drawing?

Many thanks!

No iLogic rules in the drawing template.

No boxes checked, but if I check the box to copy them over, that may be a workaround, as I'm using the iproperties from the model.

It updates itself (eventually) without really having to change anything, and it doesn't *always* happen, so I don't think it's a setting.

For some reason, it just won't update automatically.

Hi! If possible, please share the files in zip with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. I would like to understand the title block behavior better.

Many thanks!
