Title Block drawing number

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I am attempting to make a drawing for my first time and I have a different drawing number that doesn't match the .ipt number.  The .ipt number is TH-003 and the drawing number automatically put TH-003-1 in the title block.  How do I change the DWG NO in the title block from TH-003-1 to TH-003?

Thanks

If you're using the default Inventor drawing template, the "DWG NO" field references the Part Number iProperty (not File Name) for the component in the first view on the sheet.

So you'll need to open your Part and go to File --> iProperties --> Project tab, and make sure the "Part Number" field says "TH-003" without the "-1". I'm guessing that somehow the "-1" got added onto the end of the Part Number iProperty.

Thank for your assistance DRoamer.  I am using the default template..  I looked at what you are referring to and didn't see the -1.  Before your help I ended up saving as TH-003 to solve my problem, not knowing if what I did broke the link between the solid file and the dwg file.

Here is a screen capture of the iProperties after I saved as.  I wonder if the save as changed it.

Hm, interesting... no, renaming the drawing shouldn't have affected the Part's Part Number.

I do know that after you place a part in a new drawing, Inventor will "tentatively" name it the Part's filename followed by a -1, -2, etc. But that should only affect the drawing Filename and nothing else. So I'm not sure why the "DWG NO" field would have been your drawing's filename, unless someone modified your template so that the "DWG NO" field references the Drawing's Filename rather than the first view's "Part Number". You could find that out by right-clicking your Title Block and editing it and seeing what the field underneath "DWG NO" says.

Anyway, that would be my only explanation for why it worked the way it did. But I suppose as long as it's working how you want that's all that matters!

I know that I will be watching this and working with iProperties now.  Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Hi,

Please find whether it is useful.

In the drawing sheet browser, select the title block folder and then the right click the title block and edit.

Double click the part number text and in the Format Text dialog Box, Select Properties - Model and then PART NUMBER Press (x with arrowdown) at the right.

Give ok and Save

Hello mlkuselan,

I have been able to do what you have suggested but my changes will not save.  Once I am done changing to Properties-Model I click on the field to the right of it and select PART NUMBER.  Once they both look correct I click OK.  After I click ok I open up the format text dialog box again and everything is the way it was before I changed it.  I have gone back to the browser and have click "save title block" and also have selected "done".  Nothing I have tried saves the changes.  I have attached a screenshot and circled red the items that will not save

Maybe this is my problem since I am not sure what you mean by this Press (x with arrowdown)

I appreciate your help

Thanks

Hello mlkuselan,

I found the X arrow down button.  🙂  I also had to delete the word circled in blue and then click the X arrow down button and then the word would come back and remain when I clicked ok.  So I updated the company, title as well.  Only the part number is auto populating in the title block.  I filled in the fields from the iProperty page on the solid and only the part number appears in the drawing.

I must be doing something wrong, any advise?

Thanks
