I eventually figured out, together with one of our company's IT professionals, that if you right-click on the shortcut item on your desktop and click compatibility and do the automatic fix, then it works for a while, but then it also stops working.
The interoperability between Excel and Inventor also stopped working
I get the following error when trying to edit a table inside of an ipart:
"Excel installation is required for this operation. Failed to launch Excel."
I also cannot save the component to update it.
I tried the Inventor Reset Utility, but that did not work.
I'm running in compatibility mode Windows 8 on Windows 10 Build 1903
Microsoft Office Professional 2010 Version 14.0.7015.1000 (64-bit)
I then upgraded Excel from 2010 to a newer version, which fixed this issue, since 2020 inventor does not work with 2010 excel.
I've had major problems ever since I have been trying to use Inventor 2020, my machine became extremely slow. It seems as if it stops the hard drive completely. I've tried speeding up Windows 10 by doing a whole bunch of different things, but it's not working. What used to take me 30 minutes in the past now takes me about 3 and a half hours.
Yashin suggested I take note of when it slows down, and I've tried to unplug from the network as well, it worked in the beginning, but then it also became slow. My pc works fine until I switch Inventor on. It slows down from startup. It is especially slow when trying to open files with broken links and trying to resolve references. Also when you change properties in the model, it doesn't update in the drawing, especially with .iparts or .iassemblies.
It was then suggested that perhaps I go back to an older version of Inventor, so, I never received the 2019 version on my subscription, only two x 2018 versions, and I went back to 2018, but then I am unable to open files that I have edited in 2020, even after installing all the updates. Now I have two versions on my pc because I need to be able to open the ones that I have edited in 2020 before.
IS IT A WINDOWS 10 BUILD?
Another solution, which I suggested to my managers that we should perhaps try is to install the older version of Windows 10 build no. 1803 or 1809 because I have the most recent build 1903, which according to my support desk is the Windows version that works best with the new software, but my bosses think this solution is ridiculous and want me to find out from you whether Autodesk could not rather fix their program instead of me having to go back to an older operating system.
IS IT A HARDWARE ISSUE?
We have bought a new SSD in the hopes of the program speeding up, which did not work either.
The next step is to upgrade my machine to have more RAM and a better graphics card. Hopefully, then the slowness will stop, but I'm still not sure whether that will fix the thumbnails issue though? Unless I ask the computer guys to install Windows 10 build no. 1803 or 1809 perhaps?
