Dissolve a sub-assembly within an assembly

In Solidworks, I can use the dissolve feature to move all the parts in a sub-assembly to the next level up assembly.    This seems similar to what the demote feature should do in Inventor, but when I use this feature, it does the opposite of what the icon seems to show.  It adds the sub-assembly to the next level up assembly.  Promote is greyed out, so I'm not sure what it does.

Confused?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Todd

I agree it is a bit confusing...

You need to select the parts in the sub then promote is available.

I seem to remember someone saying that Solidworks also had the ability to dissolve but still keep the subassembly intact for any other assemblies its used it.. Is that true? If so just remember Inventor does NOT have that ability..

I used Solidworks for many yeard and I can confirm it does not chenge the original assembly. It would be fantastic if Inventor should do the same..
