The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.

I've imported a step file and Inventor has read something to include illegal characters.

This link says that renaming the browser nodes will fix the issue. I tried that, and it did not work.

I have tried opening the individual files and renaming them, this also does not work.

I have tried to "Save As" in the individual files, the "Save As" popup simply does not appear.

Anyone know how to solve this?

I am using Inventor 2024 and cannot share the step file in question.

Check all the iProperties.

Is there an iProperty that I should be checking in particular or is this generic advice?

You can see in the file name that there are tabs, which prevent the file and all files above it from saving. How can I edit this?

Hi! If possible, please share the Inventor file and the STEP file here. I would like to understand the issue better.

Many thanks!

The Step file is from a customer, so I cannot share it, and the problem I am facing is that I cannot save it as an Inventor file.

The workaround I am using is too import the Step file as a Reference Model, which is obviously not ideal, but mostly works for my use.

Not sure if you can "save as" all the parts to different file names first.  Then save the assembly.

BTW Johnson works at Autodesk.  He can give you NDA and help you with the STEP file.

You can send file to him instead of posting here.

This error is more common in people who use special characters like Chinese and Korean.

If part file is not important, you should delete error part file then you can save assembly file very easy.
