Textures not displaying or rendering properly in Inventor

I have models in an assembly with textures applied that are just shown as a solid color instead of the texture shown on the material swatch. When I render these items, they also render as a solid color, with all of the other properties of the material working properly (reflection, etc.).

I have the view set to shaded, and I have textures turned on. This has only been an issue since I installed 2016. I'd appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.

Can you share with us a Pack and Go of a Part with that appearance/texture applied? Please supply any required image files (jpeg or whatever) as well.

Having a copy of a part will help us to better research this issue.

Thanks,

Can I get your email address? I don't want to post our design data publicly.

Can you reproduce the issue with a simple cube?

JDMathers is right, we just need the appearance information, but if its better you can send me a PM with a public link of the inventor files (see below) or feel free to e-mail to nathan DOT chandler AT autodesk DOT com. I am happy to look either way. However, the forum is usually faster than me.

To Share a File Publically using Autodesk 360 Drive:

1. Perform a Save As Pack and Go on the drawing

2. Right click on the Pack and Go directory in Windows explorer and Send to > Compressed (zip) file

3. Next, Upload to https://360.autodesk.com/

4. Right click on the Zip file once it has been uploaded and then select Share > Public Sharing

360 Drive Public Sharing.png

5. Turn on Public Sharing and Copy the URL

6. Post the link here or send me a Private message with the URL

Let me know if you have any quetsions.

Cheers,

Thanks for the file.

The asterisk next to the appearance just indicates that the component/body/feature/face has an appearance override. That means the appearance has been modified from the default appearance that is associated with the material.

I note that if I change the Visual Style to Realistic the textures (e.g. the grain of the wood in the Maple - Stained Dark Polish appearance) appear nicely in the graphics workspace.

Does this help?

Thanks,

Setting the view to realistic does not resolve the issue. I still have the problem where all I see are the solid colors on the faces instead of the texture.

I checked to see if I could recreate this issue on the other computers in our office, and I could on one other computer, but another computer worked fine. Is it possible some of the textures are currupted somehow? What steps should I take to debug the issue further?

Also, the asterisk is not there for all of the textures, but no textures with an image map appear correctly.

Textures and appearances are not the same. Textures are an attribute of an appearance. It may help if you can clarify which component is the issue specifically.

If you look at the appearance override applied to component, "506-00127-01 - C - Battery Charger Top:1," the appearance is "Smooth - Black." If you edit the appearance, I do not find any Finish Bumps or Relief Pattern Images applied to this appearance.

If you apply these images, does it help to achieve the end goal of textures?

The below images compare the behavior of 2015 and 2016. I note there some difference between the appearances, but I don't understand what yo mean by textures. Could you elaborate on which component or what attribute of the appearance is incorrect?

Thanks,

I think I have figured out what's wrong. All of the appearances in Inventor cannot find the textures for their noise maps, images, or bump maps. I looked in the directory where the appearances are trying to link to and it isn't empty, but there aren't any image files in the exact directory it's searching (in this case C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\Materials\Textures).

So that would explain why none of the textures are displaying correctly on any of the appearances. However, I have no idea how those texture images could have disappeared, and I need to figure out how to get them reinstalled. We have this issue on multiple computers here, so I believe something we did when we upgraded from 2015 to 2016 may have caused the issue.

I'm not sure how they got messed up, but I fixed everything by following the instructions here to uninstall and reinstall my material libraries.

I would recommend that anyone else that has this issue do the same. Thanks for your help!
