Maybe i'm missing something, but now you are able to convert text to geometry, this is great.

But what can you do then?

Not able to extrude it, so it will not be visible in the part.

And in Sheet Metal you can place text in the flat pattern and also convert the text, but it is not visible in the dxf.

So what can we do with this new feature?

HI!

Don't use extrude to "mark" the part or flat pattern with text, use EMBOSS tool instead and it will work.

Unfortunately that also does not work.

There are after a convert a lot of open loop's in the sketch.

You don't need to convert the text.

Use EMBOSS directly in the text

Sorry, my mistake.
But i like to use it for laser engraving, an extrude or emboss is not the ideal option for it.

Works fine here..

Create your sheet metal part..

Create the flat pattern and then add the text to it in the flat pattern and then convert that text to geometry ..

Then right click on the top flat pattern node in the model browser and click "save copy as" and create your dxf file..

Open in Autocad and text is shown..

Hi,

if you need the text for laser engraving then Exploding text to geometry is exactly what you need. If you want to include the text in exported flat pattern you'll have to turn on Unconsumed sketches layers in set its color during saving to DXF.

Yes that works. The way i made an export to DXF was with iLogic.
But......the number I like to place on the part is the part number.
With iLogic i place the part number as text on the flat pattern. We work a lot with derived parts for a left and right copy, and in that case the ilogic works.
But if I use the convert, the connection to the original text is broken.

Yes, that right. I think there is currently no way to parametricaly drive converted texts.
