Hi
We have set up our own templates which have to be used as they contain specific iProperty information.
This information, depending on which template is picked, decides which of 2 lifecycles the file enters in the vault.
However there seems to be some other templates that we dont want to use....when you click the drop down beside the new icon on quick access toolbar it access some random templates?
anyone know where these templates are so we can remove them, so we only allow users to use specific templates that met the criteria for entering our lifecycle?
Attached picture shows these templates we dont want to see as there is no control for them
Cheers
Graeme
Graeme,
Those are the default out of the box templates.
If you don't want them used move them in windows explorer to a resort location.
I always hit the "New" icon (the one you make mention of) and all of the templates show up in the
directory specified in the master project file.
Cheers Scott
Yeah I also hit the new icon but some of the other 30 users here have been accidentally using the drop down method thus causing problems in the vault.
Where are these out the box templates located so I can move them
thanks
Graeme
That is why I suggested moving those templates, because here we have done that
and when the drop down is selected, it comes up with a message stating those template
cannot be found.
I need to know where they are thoug to move them...thats my issue 🙂
Cheers
Graeme
If you go under manage>projects and look at the master project what does it tell you for the
template files location?
yep....my project file also points to a point on the server for the templates...this is where our own templates are...but where are the out of the box ones you speak of? they are not in this location.....
Cheers
Graeme
Try looking in this folder.
If they are not here then I would do a search under "My Computer" for them.
yep...I deleted them from that location......and they still appear...im curently searching My Computer for Standard.ipt.....
cheers
Graeme
nope...nothing named standard.ipt.....or standard.iam
Im well Puzzled!
Regards
Graeme
That makes two of us. I don't know what else to tell you.
If I was sitting at your station I might be able to figure something out, but from this end
it is a little challenging beyond what I have already suggested.
On more question
Do you have any other Inventor loaded old versions?
And if not was the folders for them in C drive deleted?
I am not the one having the issue. I like you am trying to help the originator of this thread.
Hopefully he will respond to your questions.
Hi
We are runnign Windows 7 Pro
yes I have multiple versions running, I have 2011 on my machine for bringing files out of an old 2011 vault we have archived
I can try on a Machine with only 2012 on...
See if that works
Thanks
Graeme
Hi graeme.robinson,
I think what your running up against is a bit of hidden functionality that is not very discoverable.
Here's how it works: If you don't have a file called Standard.ipt in the root of your template directory and you use the drop down list, then Inventor defaults to a template that is hardcoded within in the program (if I recall correctly). So typically the best solution is to place a copy of your template in the root of your template directory and name it Standard.ipt, or just rename your existing template Standard.ipt. This way when a user uses the drop down, you know which file they will be hitting.
This is true for all of the file extensions found in the list (.ipt, .iam, .idw or .dwg, and .ipn)
There is a reason that it works this way, but it's a bit academic.
I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Thanks Curtis
Thats a real shame......I cant put the standard.ipt back in the root and use that as we use two diferent kinds of templates depending on which user is creating a file, as they go into different deparmental life cycles....
I guess the only way round it is to make these standrd.i* templates have a different iproperty field matched with another file category in lifecycle which will be flagged up when checking into the vault as a non lifecyle category or a locked file....
whats annoying is that the standard.idw shows up as missing...its the iam and ipt that still work from this hard coded thing that you mention.
Its one of them pointless Inventor things that should be disabled but wont for some unbeknown reason
thnaks for the information though
Cheers
Graeme
If you didn't set anything on the project, the template folder location is default. Cadmanto has talked.
Then when you create new file using the quick access button, the template folder will be showed.
If you change the template foler to another, it will be updated at create new file dialog box.
