Hello,
I'm looking to get a new laptop, and have mostly settled on the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2. I'm pretty new to CAD/Inventor Professional 2018, which is what my high school's robotics club uses for prototyping/part design. I know that for Inventor Professional 2018 the system requirements are 20gb of RAM, but I know people who have 16gb and even 8gb and it works OK for them. Right now the 8gb/Core i7/256gb SSD model is on sale for $300 off. Would 8gb of RAM be enough to smoothly run Inventor Professional 2018? There's no way to hook up an external GPU or add RAM so that kind of expansion is out of the question. Should I get this model? Should I wait for the 16gb model to go on sale? Has anyone had experience running Inventor 2018 with this configuration and/or device? I really do need a laptop, and as of now I will be doing basic web-based text editing and CAD with it. I don't know what kind of CAD I will be doing in the future or how how many parts will be in the assemblies I'll be dealing with. I'll likely keep this laptop through (at least part of) college and the rest of high school. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much,
-Max
