Hi Everyone,

Just wondering if someone could offer a little guidance on a wee issue im having surface extruding a canoe seat.

I cant seem to extrude the seat too the rails upwards? I have patched and stitched to try and make it watertight but the extrude keeps coming back with a error?? has anyone got any ideas I could try? ( it extrudes down no problems) I have include my ipt.

Thanks ing advance!Screen Shot 2018-10-15 at 8.57.52 pm.pngScreen Shot 2018-10-15 at 8.57.34 pm.png

I cann't open (and not test with)  your file (I'm still with IV 2015), but I'd suggest:

- extrude a value greater than you need  (not To Next)

- split the vertical faces

- delete the unwanted faces

Hi there,

Thanks for info.. what im trying to do is just extrude the sides up to the rails? I’ve created construction lines on the profile with the sides not construction but when I try to extrude it selects the whole profile?

Would you have any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks,

Will

While in the extrude command don't pick the face (profile), but the bots (side) lines. If necessary use the Select Other tool.

If this doesn't help (maybe I misunderstood again) use an "pencil" (Paint or similar) and sketch in your above posted pic what you want to get.

Hi there,

This is what Im trying to achieve.. you can see where the side profile extrudes up towards the boat rail.. but for some reason each time I try it the whole profile extrudes in either surface or solid depending on which I choose.. I don’t have a problem entering a distance for it to extrude its just when I select “ to next” which is what I need as I have to create a free form seat from the area afterwards..

Thanks a lot for the help too!

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting this interesting post and share the file with us.

I have opened your ipt and if I move the end of part on the top and then back to the bottom I can see that the feature SweepSrf1 has something incorrect.

Could you try to recreate that feature?

Please let us know how it goes

Extrude To Next Requires a surface at which the extrusion ends or in other words, the extrusion must reach a face. Whre is this face in your pic (in your model)?

If you say, you can extrude the complete profile - can you post a pic how this looks.
