Style and Standard Editor move style to active standard

I'm using a style library that is saved on a network drive. I created a several styles and all have worked fine except for one parts list style that appears not to be in the active standard. It's only a local style. However, everything is updated. If I click format--Save Styles to Style Library or Update Styles there are no choices to say yes or no to which tells me that the drawing and library styles match perfectly. But when I made a new drawing I tried to use one of the parts list styles I created and it's not there. Even in the original drawing, it only show is the editor when you choose local styles. How do I get it to be in my active standard? When I created it I'm sure I chose the check box to save to standard and it did I think. but it somehow is not there any more. Only locally. But shouldn't it then allow me to save that local style to the standard. How do I do it?

In order for you to update your stsyles library to have the local style you have developed you must be in a project that has styles set to "Yes". Most of the time this setting is "Read only" so it prevents you from overwriting any of the standards. I have a separate project just for editting my styles with this setting. I would put up a screen shot to show you where this is but this site is not allowing me to do that at the moment.

It is set to yes. I would not have been able to select save styles to style library if it was read only. I'll just have to start over. I'm know pretty much what I'm doing, but theres been some strange behavior. For instance, I have a style which shows when I set the filter to all styles but not when I change the filter to active standard or local styles. So where is it? I went through one by one and set all possible standards active and it didn't show. I don't know. I think it will work if I start over. I think its just my computer today.

Hello mjk289,

I'm not sure what your problem is but perhaps if I
describe the "Filter Styles" options on the Style Editor dialog it will help
narrow it down:

Local Styles --- shows all styles cached in
the current document.  A style is cached when it is used or when you
explicitly select a library style in the styles editor browser, RMB and
select "Cache in Document".

All Styles --- shows both styles cached in the
current document and styles in the style library.

Active Standard --- shows styles in the active
standard that have been checked on the "Available Styles" tab of the standard
style.  The active standard and the styles checked on the "Available
Styles" tab are also cached in the active document.

Hope this helps!

Well I really don't know what was going on but It's all straightened out now. I closed everything and started with a fresh drawing file. Then I opened the style library manager program and checked everything. Thanks, Alison for pointing out that "available styles" tab. Maybe that was something I needed to look at before. I hadn't noticed it so thanks. I'll be more aware in the future.

Mike
