STEP File import stuck at 95%

Hey, trying to import a fairly complex STEP file but it fails at 95% I was able to import as a reference model but it had a lot of errors. Edit: Tried on Fusion 360, instantly crashes inventor stops responding as soon as I attempt the import as well. Using Inventor pro 2020, fresh install. All hardware is new and high performance

Would you be interested in another file having a similar problem?  We are using 2022.4 and the model import is stuck at 92%.  If so, what's the best way to get you the model?

Inventor 2025, still step stuck on 95% on several machines.

I had the same issue on a step file created from one of our large assemblies in our Vault.  It was saved as a step and then, to check it, opened up in Inventor and it stuck at 95%.  What I found was that if I changed my path to the default templates it opened up, so I'm assuming that it has something to do with custom templates. 

I'm using 2024.3 and this worked for me.  Try going into your project and changing the path for the templates to C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor <version>\Templates\en-US\English\

It does not sound right. Usually, this should be a file-specific STEP import issue. Please share an example that exhibits the behavior.

Copying the original "standard.dwg, standard.ipt, standard.iam" templates to our custom template folder did solve the issue for now.

Hi, we have a step file which also stops at around 77%, then 85% for a long while and never opens completely. Autodesk Inventor Professional 2025.4 - 64Bit on Win11.

Hi! It seemed to work fine with me on Inventor 2025.4, though it did take a bit longer to import due to some errors. Please see attached Inventor files.
