Step file import creates and IPT file.. which fails to open

Hi all,

Please can someone advise on this. I receive a lot of step files from customers, which need to be manufactured as sheet metal parts.

I drag the step file into inventor, and it opens fine. Inventor sometimes creates an IPT file of the part in the same folder as the step file.

If i close everything and then try and open the IPT file it fails to open and says 'Reached the end of the file' and 'The database in \\thefilepath.ipt could not be opened??

See attached image.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, sjcooke

Attach your step file.

Verify that you have all patches installed. It works for me.

What happens if instead of using this technique you simply do File Open of the STEP file and then Save?

I close everything...

Are you hitting Save before closing?

Hi! What Inventor release are you on? This seems that the Standard.ipt template file in your template folder may be corrupted. Go to Tools -> App Options -> File -> Configure Default Templates -> select the desirable standard and unit.

Restart Inventor and import the STEP file. Does it work better now?

Many thanks!
