Solid Bodies to Parts Enviroment

Currenlty working in Inventor 2016 with an assembly. For some reason I went to open up a part to edit a sketch/extrusion and the part is now in "Soild Bodies" which will not allow me to access the features or sketches that are needed. I have no idea how to undo or get back to "part enviorment" which would allow me to access the sketchs or feautres of the part.

I think you have left out some critical information in your problem description.

At the top of the browser - I see a 3rd Party node.

Did you import this assembly from a STEP or IGES or DWG or some other format?

Double click on the + symbol next to 3rd Party to expand.

Double click on the expanded node.

What information does it give you?

How much training/experience do you have with Inventor?

I opened the nodes and was directed to a website with the following information.

Apparently you were not taught about neutral format files.

The information indicates that this assembly was translated from an IGES file.

IGES files do not support feature histories.

Did you ever have this assembly as native Inventor parts (with history tree)?

Perhaps you have multiple versions and have gotten confused with which version you are using.

Q1. Are you using Vault or are you using Projects?

No I do not, I am a student working on a design project and have little knowledge about inventor. I believe I did save it as a IGES because that's how I have been getting corrections done by a third party due to them having a later version of inventor.

I don't know how to determine if I do or do not have this assembly as a native with a history tree (how do you tell if its a vault or project as well).

If you do not know if you are using Vault or if you are using Projects - then you are not ready for a project that includes assemblies.

Ask your instructor to cover the topic of Project (*.ipj) files.

No work (that includes multiple files) should ever be done without a Project.

Then you should still have the original files - unless you over-wrote them.

File managment is key concept in computer use, and especially in the CAD world, and double especially in parametric MCAD world.
