Smooth tubes connection

Hi!

I'm trying to make a smooth connection between two tubes. The part is a modification of a frame generator part. The issue comes with the connection between two of the tubes.  I would like to make the red area smoother, as if it were just one case holding the two tubes. I'm not able to make it, keeping the inside of the tube clean and smooth... Does anybody have a clue what could be the best solution?

PD: If you want me to share the file, please let me know how would be the best for you, it is an assembly, since it is a frame.

Thank you!

Hi Cristian,

I believe you must have tried using Fillet command but it did not yield a satisfying result. If possible, please share the files in zip here. The forum experts can help take a look and propose a better workflow.

Many thanks!

Thank you! Hope this zip is sufficient. I have tried the fillet command, but the results are not good. The idea is to cover the red area (see picture attached) so that it looks like one single piece, not showing the connection between the two tubes. It is a complex part with some 3 different angles and directions.

Best regards

Did you try using the corner setback on your fillets?

(I tried playing with it in a part but i did get some funky results.)

(I did do setbacks on both ends, but it seems to not want to do one of them.)

(And I would have no idea what could be done in frame generator.)

HI, thanks for the reply. I believe the frame generator part gives some issues when trying to modify...I think the only solution is to create the part following another workflow.

Kind regards

Hi! There are multiple solutions to the problem. It is more of an aesthetic problem than an engineering problem. Here is another solution. Basically, I create a Profile Sweep with a large radius to get the nice transition (instead of sharp mitering). Then use a sphere Solid Sweep to get a nice intersection. Lastly round off the sharp edges. Please take a look at the attached file.

Many thanks for showing this way. It is not an aesthetic problem but to 3d print a part that will be functional so it needs to be quite tight to certain measurements. Again, you solution looks nice.
I'm not used to work with surfaces, how did you create that first steps with 3 surfaces?

Cheers!

Hi Cristian,

The first three surfaces were created by using Copy Object (with associativity). To access it, go to 3D Model tab -> expand Modify panel. The resultant surface body will be adaptive to the source body. It is a powerful workflow to link part geometry within an assembly.

Many thanks!
