Smart Parametric Template Assemblies

I am trying to set up a number of parametric, adaptive assemblies that i can use as templates parts.

I want to be able to copy the design of the template assembly, go into my new assembly, edit the parameters E.G. Height, Width and Length. and be presented with my new assembly at the desired size.

I have got this far...

But where im stuck is; i have a maximum length i can make component parts (3m). Is there a way that i can tell this to inventor and it will know if a span is over 3m, to use 2x or 3x the same component but at a reduced length to fill the span?

Cheers,

Can be a bit tricky to add if the part exceeds length.

I'm guessing you're using a "Top Down" modelling technique for this assembly? In that case you could set your values in a form and control the steps and max value from there.
