Slot Cut insertion

Good morning

I like to know if is there a way to generate a slot cut, on to a extruded feature; without having to create a sketch. Ideally in the same manner as the hole future creation, where it can be aligned.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Thank you very much for your time, and wish you a great day.

p.s. I am using Inventor Professional 2018.

Hello,

As of yet i don't think this is possible. Here's a link from the ideas board for what you're describing:

Thank you for your reply, but I do not see the option for punch tool in the modify section. Could it be because I am not creating a sheet metal component?. If that is the case, can I convert it, punch the slot and then revert it to non sheet metal?

Yes you could do that, to convert it to a standard part you go to the sheet metal tab, setup pane and you'll see the "Convert to Standard Part" option.

Also, the punch tools will go to a certain depth, so if you're making your own tool make sure you configure it properly, or just go into the parameters and change the depth value

I routinely use Punch tools for any part.

If the part is not a Sheet Metal part - you must temporarily convert the part to Sheet Metal (on the Environments tab) and then convert back to standard part.  This is a simple toggle.

Punch tools require a sketch.. OP stated "without having to create a sketch"..

Hi! The answer to your question is actually Yes and No. You can create a slot without having to create a sketch manually. Here is what you need to do. Within a part, go to Manage -> Insert -> Feature -> pick a feature to insert from Content Center.

And, no, a sketch-based feature like Extrude requires a sketch to operate. So, you do need a sketch in order to create such feature.

Many thanks!

Thank you everyone for your time, and effort to find a solution to my Slot cut insertion, but as of right now as far as I know; it is not possible to perform this. If someone figures out a way or one day is available, I will re-post here for circle completion sake.

Thank you all, and wish you a great day.

Hi! Another workflow you can consider is to use Derive and Direct Edit. Assuming you have a slot drilling tool, you can derive it as a body. Next, you can use Direct Edit command to move the body around. Then you can use Combine command to cut the tool from the main body.

Many thanks!
