Sketch Block Visibility in a Sketch

In Inventor 2023.2, while editing a sketch, the Block "Visibility" option is missing.

Here's a sketch being edited, and the block glyph correctly shows visible/not visible blocks - but the menu option for controlling visibility is missing.

If you exit the Sketch editing mode, the block visibility option reappears:

Maybe it has never been there and my memory is failing!

Can someone with an earlier version of Inventor check that I'm not missing something please?

Hi Peter,

I suspect this has something to do with rollback. Basically the visibility option is gone because those sketch blocks were defined later than the one you are editing. It should have been the way it works.

Many thanks!

I'm not editing any of the blocks - only the parent sketch.

I can't control the visibility of a block while editing the sketch

I have to exit the sketch - adjust be block visibility - then re-edit the sketch.

To make the problem worse, when you finish editing the sketch, all the block "glyphs" in the browser suggest they're all invisible - even though some of them aren't.  (My first image shows 3 visible blocks and 2 invisible.  The second image suggests they're all invisible - but they're not because you can see them in the graphics area.)

I'm sure previous versions of Inventor offered the block visibility option while editing the sketch.

As picture shows, you can change visibility of blocks while editing the sketch and when you're not.

this is in Inventor 2021

Did it occur in multiple parts? hence, maybe corrupt file or something. If not it idd might be because of 2023 version.

I can turn visibility on and off while editing the sketch, no problem.  This is Inventor 2023.2.  I wonder what the difference is?

Update: I noticed that your sketches are shared, so I tried placing blocks in a shared sketch, but I'm still able to control block visibility while editing the sketch.  Hmmm....

Thanks for checking @SBix26 and @W.Versin and @johnsonshiue

You are right, it does work as you've demonstrated, but after investigating further (thanks to your input) there is a problem - and I suspect it is one for @johnsonshiue to pass back to the dev team.

If the part contains more than one sketch AND you are editing it in the context of an assembly, then the block visibility option for the first sketch disappears from the menu.  (So it's quite a specific workflow to get to the problem!)

If you open the attached Assembly, edit the part, then edit Sketch1, the Block visibility option is missing:

2.jpg2.jpg

Edit Sketch2, and the Block visibility is available:

3.jpg3.jpg

Just to prove a point, I deleted the second sketch and found Visibility came back for my Blocks on Sketch1.

4.jpg4.jpg

I added a second Sketch just for fun and the Block visibility option on Sketch1 vanished again.

Note that it works perfectly if you open the Part exclusively - it only fails when editing in the context of an assembly.  Now I know the problem, I can work round it 👍

Hi Peter,

I am sorry to reply to you late. The behavior does not make sense. It should just work. The interesting thing is it is indeed specific to Edit-in-Place and also it happens to the first sketch (if you reorder the two, the top one will exhibit the behavior). Also, I am able to reproduce it on 2020. It must have been a bug for a while.

I need to work with the project team to understand it better. Something is wrong for sure.

Have a nice weekend!

Many thanks!
