simplify complex 3D models

Hi all,

I would like to simplify a complex 3D assembly made in autodesk inventor to 3D print this model. But the model contails a lot of complex geometries.

i found a step file on grabcad of the model i would like to print.

Is there any way i could simplify this model,(fill small holes etc) without having to alter part by part?

i seem unable to attach the step file because of the size.

therefore i added a picture of what the model looks like.

Kind regards

I've tried similar workflows in the past.  In my case, we had designed a full-scale machine and the customer wanted a display model scaled to fit on a desk.  We tried several workflows, but finally we just remodeled the machine at the correct scale.  We simplified and combined parts to make 3d printer-friendly models.  Once they were printed, we assembled the individual prints with CA glue and steel pins.

Is the Grabcad model the correct size or do you need to scale it down to fit your printer?

Is this model full size, or has it been scaled down for printing.

When scaling a full size model thin features will become so thin that they cannot be printed.

Shrinkwrap can be used to remove fine details such as filling small holes.

Large files can be uploaded to Home - FUSION (autodesk360.com) and public link posted here.

Hi,

thank you! this is indeed a model that needs to be scaled down to about 20 percent. A lot of thin features are unable to print. I think the best way to go about this is to redesign the model then. I guess i was just hoping for an easier solution 🙂

Kind regards
