Sheet metal thickness in IDW Template - Another question

On my post from 5-17-2015 I got the answer for sheet metal and it works great.

The problem is that usualy my first sheet has the .IAM (with Pem hardware)  file and all the information - like title,p/n,dates and part list are insertd into the drawing from the .IAM file.

Since the Sheet Metal Thickness and Material are in the .IPT they are not inserted  into the Drawing.

Is there a way to do this.

Thanks

Alon

As far as the thickness, there are two ways to do it:

  1. Link to the sheet metal part's thickness as a parameter. To do this, from the Parameters dialog box (the f_x button in the quick-access toolbar, or "Manage" tab -> "Manage" panel -> "Parameters" button), just click the "Link" button at the bottom, choose the sheet metal part file, and click next to the Sheet Metal Thickness parameter to link it into your drawing.
  2. IF a view containing the part has been placed anywhere in the current drawing, you can access its Parameters (but not iProperties) directly within a text field using the "Component", "Source", and "Parameter" dropdowns.

As far as the material, the only way I can think of would be for the sheet metal part to be the first view inserted into the drawing sheet, and then you can use the dropdowns just above the ones mentioned above ("Type" and "Property") to insert both the thickness as well as the material into the text field.

Hope that helps.

Thank you very much but I would like the Thickness and Material to be inserted in my drawing when I place an .IAM view exactly like when I place a .IPT view - Automaticly without having to do anything (If this is possible).

Thanks

How is Inventor going to decide which IPT properties from the IAM you want inserted in the TitleBlock?

This is why my workflow is 1 IDW for each IPT, and 1 IDW for each IAM.

This method will soon pay off when you can place the same IPT in multiple IAM's in future jobs, without having to recreate the drawing over and over again.Smiley Wink

Your title block will look at the first model inserted onto the sheet. Before you place your assembly, first place a view of the part outside of the sheet area (so it doesn't print) then place the views of the assembly.
