Sheet Metal Part into Flat Pattern

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello,

I created this part in a flat then used Bend Part to roll into a circle.

Converted to a sheet metal & used fold to bend tabs.

I'm can't seem to get a correct Flat Pattern.

I'm kind of new to sheet metal (the easy stuff I can do most of the time).

I was wondering if some one could tell me were I went wrong or if I'm wrong from the start.

Attached is what I have tried.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I don't think you can do that in r2012, and I have doubts about later releases (when was Contour Roll added).

In general, stick with the sheet metal tools as a beginner (no Extrude, use Face instead, no Bend Part, use Fold instead (and only if there is no other way).

JD,

Thanks I will take your advice and stick with sheet metal tools.

Should I draw it as the finished part & split to get the flat pattern,

or draw it as flat and fold 360 degree. (if fold will do that).

I don't think it is possible in r2012. (I could be wrong.)  But the general rule is to always model sheet metal in the final form (use Unfold/Refold rather than Fold if needed).

I couldn't remember when it was added - I didn't think it went back that far.

In that case - a very similar problem has come up here in the past 6 months (at least twice).

Hopefully that person will see this thread (I have no idea on what to search for (other than Contour Roll)).
