Sheet metal flange by reference

Hi!

I am trying to create a flange between the two faces, from Face1 to Face2 (Sketch3).

I click "Flange" and I select  angle "by reference plane" but Inventor cannot select the plane I want, it can only select the green one on the screenshot which is perpendicular to the one I want.

Is there any problem with flanges creation when the layers angles are random? Is there any workaround?

I have attached the .ipt file.

Hi

The model is flawed – the surface you're trying to specify isn't parallel to the flange edge.
This is simply mathematically impossible.

Fix the workplane definitions, and everything will work.

Hi! I would like to confirm your design intent. Do you try to bridge the two Faces? If yes, you may want to use Corner Seam command to narrow the gap between the two Faces. Then use Bend command to connect the two faces.

Many thanks!

Thank you for the answer. I did not know that bend command required the planes to be parallel. It will save me a lot of time.

Using 3D model tools I am able to connect the faces but if I create it that way then the "bend" command from the "metal sheet" panel does not work, I get "No matching faces found".

I am trying to create the "flat pattern" from the "metal sheet" panel so I have to either use the "bend" command or create the bend using the "face" command, otherwise the flat pattern will not be able to correctly process the part.

After some experimentation, using Corner Seam to narrow the gap and then using Bend worked. It may need some refinement to move the bend a bit further from the edge but I am happy with the result!
