Sharing a Global Form

Is there a way to change the global forms location, such as how it's done with external rules?

We have local copies of Inventor but store part files on a network.  I can share external rules easily but I dont know how to share the global forms without recreating them on each PC.  Given our large network, that would be quite difficult, expensive, and time consuming to accomplish.

Hi briandaley,

The only way I know how to do this is to configure the Design Data path to a network location. But maybe someone else knows of another way that I've overlooked. In general though, it's not a bad idea to have all of the Design Data on a network location (for the same reason of maintaining it all in once place if you customize it).

The Design Data path is set in one of two places:

• In the Project file, under the Folder Options settings

• Or in the Application Options > File tab under Design Data

Keep in mind that if your project file has a path set other than 'Default', it will override the Applciation Options setting.

Thank you so much!  That worked perfectly.  I had to manually copy the existing design folder on my local drive and add it to the network drive before it would let me pick it but after that it worked like a charm.

tip for sharing design data 

We set up the folders in the vault work space and  each station gets the folder from vault

I wanted to be able to share my Global form across our team.  When I create a form, it is saved in the ..Standard Styles\iLogic\UI folder.  This is because of the Design Folder definition in my .ipj.

So now I just create my form and check-in to Vault. Since we all use the same .ipj, everyone can "Get" this folder and they will have the "Latest" global form.  Any change can be pushed out to Vault and when the user "Gets Latest", they are back in sync.

I do the same for the iLogic rules to keep everyone in sync.
