Shared View - Unable to export part with emboss feature

Hi all,

I've come across a weird problem when trying to create a new shared view of a part (and also every project containing this part). Once I try to create a new shared view, Inventor grinds to a complete halt (only able to be shut down with the task manager).

I traced the problem to an emboss feature that, when suppressed, allows me to export it again.

At first I thought it might be an unrecognised font, but after creating a new sketch and emboss (copying the contents of another part which does work), the export becomes unusable again.

Unfortunately I can't share the files here directly, but if anyone from Autodesk might want to take a look at this file?

I've tried this in both INV24 and INV26 both have the same result.

If you want to share the file with me I can try to have a look, or maybe @johnsonshiue ?  If you DM me I can share my contact info.

Thank you for sharing the files.  I've been able to see exactly the same as you do using IV 2026.  @johnsonshiue is Emboss not yet supported by Shared Views, or does this sound like a bug to you?

Do you need Emboss?

I never found emboss to be absolutely necessary unless I was trying to put it on a curved surface. Can you just use extrude?

Hi Chris,

I am not aware of the limitation. Shared View should work on any geometry. I don't understand why the Emboss feature fails. If possible, please share the file with me directly at johnson.shiue@autodesk.com.

Many thanks!

The part in question is a panel where I want an imprint at the front specifying the type; for this I need to emboss a text ("P1.9"), which isn't possible with extrude.

I tried just keeping the sketch visible, which works in the 3D environment, but the problem here is that it doesn't show up in drawings or shared views, which is definitely a requirement.

The thing is, Emboss on its own does seem to work with shared views; it's just in this particular case that it doesn't, and I have no clue why.

I already tried copying the sketch from a working part to the faulty one (to eliminate any strange fonts or blocks being used), but no solution.

@johnsonshiue: I'll send the files to you as well.

Oh boy... is there a rock I can crawl under? 😂

Never realised you could extrude text... Well, you learn something every day, I guess. 🤔

Unfortunately though, this didn't solve the issue... So the issue wasn't the emboss itself.

So still, with the extrude suppressed, it exports just fine. Once I turn the extrude back on, it crashes INV.

Hi, I just tested the text in 2026, and it seems to share just fine.  I wonder if there is something else that is blocking this for you... but I can't think what?

There must be something wrong with the main model, because, as mentioned, both extrude and emboss work fine on other parts; it's just with this part that something causes it to crash the Shared View export.

I received news from Johnson that he'll look into it with the other team members, but that as a (temporary) workaround, he noticed that if you create the extrude as a new body, the export does still work... so that's my solution for now. 😊

Still a very weird bug. 🤔

Hi Folks,

Kevin did send me the files. I have verified the behavior. It seems to be specific to the geometry (text protrusion). It doesn't matter if the geometry is created by the Emboss feature or the Extrude feature. Shared View has trouble converting it to a viewable file. This is a bug but I am not sure about the exact culprit yet. I will work with the project team to understand it better.

Many thanks!
