Severe morphing when opening Revit projects.

Hello everybody.

I have come across a problem. I need to open a large file from revit and transfar it to an AutoCAD .dwg. because our partner does not know how to deliver the correct views. So i, as the Inventor Engineer was asked if i could be the chain between our AutoCAD engineers and our Revit partners.

Now i read on the official sites of Revit and Inventor that this action would be possible.

So first i downloaded the extra Revit-Inventor Converter add-on for Inventor 2023.

Then i downloaded a simple project sample from the Revit site.

Revitfout 3.jpg

I followed the steps from the Inventor site on how to open/import the file.

Then i got the following preview below, where everything looks as it should be.

Revitfout 1.jpg

But then...

When the project is opened, there are no errors or problems, but it looks like this:

Revitfout 2.jpg

This happend when i import the file as a Refrence Model.

But i also tried it as a Converted Model both as an Assembly, Multi-Body part and Composite part and the end result is the same.

This was a Basic project sample, i also tried a more advanced project sample (i thought it was maybe a file issue), but with a more advanced part, the morphing only becomes more severe.

Maybe someone here has a bit of experience with this issue and knows a few tips and tricks?

Thanks already!

-Nick

Hi! This could be a bug in Inventor or the objects in the Revit file could be corrupted. If possible, please share the Revit file here. I would like to understand the behavior better.

Many thanks!

The translator you installed is essentially a full copy of Revit, there's just no UI, so the image in the import dialogue is an actual screenshot taken live from Revit when you make your changes in the dialogue. Because you can see the house, it shows that the information is definitely in the Revit file. However, it's not left Revit yet. With all other anyCAD, the preview is generated inside Inventor, this one is generated inside Revit.

As long as you don't uncheck any of those boxes, you should be importing everything you see in that image.

If not, there's an issue somewhere with the translation.

That demo model is ancient though, but I don't think being a different version would make any difference as Revit would migrate the file before it is even exported to Inventor.

What does your browser tree look like? Are there folders for 'windows' for instance? Are they empty?

I dont think so. Within the import pane everything is always checked on.

But i dont have a downloaded folder or anything, but just a lone .rvt file.

Thanks!

Hi @n_maasdijk!

It looks like the RVT you attached was last saved in Revit 2024, so it's a bit surprising Inventor 2023 imports anything, as Revit 2023 will not even attempt it. We actually have an open defect to block the import dialog in this case (unsupported future version) to avoid such confusion. One easy way to tell is to check the Revit Version that displays on the left hand corner of the Open dialog when the file is selected (example):

On the other hand we actually added support for importing a future Revit version into Inventor 2025.2+ as long as you have the matching or newer version Revit Core Engine (called Autodesk Revit Interoperability <year> in Installed Apps), which you should also be automatically be prompted to install in this case.

If you have Revit installed you can actually find this and other samples at this location which correspond to that Revit version: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Revit <Version Year>\Samples

I got the 2023 version of the same file from here and it seemed to import okay. 🙂

I have also attached it for your testing in case you don't currently have Revit. Let us know if you have any other questions, and good luck!
