Setting Drawing Dimension as Parameter Name

Hello,

I have created an iPart where the length and the hole locations change depending on the part selected.  In the .DWG I placed a table to show each iPart option but when I dimension the view I do not see an option to put the parameter name instead of the base view value.   I know that I can use the 'hide dimension value' button and type in the name I want but I would rather have it linked to the actual parameter name in case the parameter name changes it automatically updates the name in the dimension.

Is there a way to put the parameter name as the dimension value without using hide?

Thank you.

Hi! Unfortunately, I don't see a manual workflow to do that. Maybe, there could be a solution using iLogic.

Many thanks!

Thank you.  I will have to look into writing an iLogic script.

I am actually trying to do the same thing but on a larger scale so I can just show the parameter name (or even just a bubble #/letter would suffice)

Doesn't help that I am brand new to Inventor Drawings... thing should be fun! 😃

I am also struggling bc the multi-bodied iPart doesn't seem to be able to split into 4 separate components that I can make individual drawings of, so I resorted to 'Cropping' each view and moving the crop sketch around to generate drawings for each of the A/B/C/D combs. Is there a better way I can do this?

Can someone point me in the right direction for this iLogic bit?

Hi! I am not an iLogic expert. Here is a related topic with some helpful code.

Many thanks!

Well that makes 2 of us, I have not yet delved down the iLogic rabbit hole. I would love to soon but for now I have to get this done just using the "hide parameter" tick box when editing the dimension.

I will mark this down for a future study to implement. I appreciate your help though!
