set size of part

Hey everyone, I'm new to post on this forum, and with Inventor as a whole, so forgive me if my lingo is off or doesnt make sense.

I'm working with an IAM file, and the size of the piece is absolutely enormous (240.3 in x 296.8 in) and was trying to figure out how to reduce those sizes to, say 7 in x 8.7 in (rougly) or how to rescale the piece.

I recommend that you STOP whatever you are doing and attach your assembly (which of course includes attaching the part files *.ipt) here before you take another step.

Someone will then walk you through the logical and proper way to use a parametric MCAD program.

If you don't follow my recommendation - I predict that  you will develop some very bad modeling habits that in my experience will then be very difficult to break the habits and do things correctly.

Go back and re-read my original response.

An assembly file (*.iam) is only a list of local hyperlinks to the part files (*.ipt) and a record of assembly constraints (and a bit more).

You must include the part files in any attachments here so that others can see the part files that at this point exist only on your machine.

pretty sure I figured out the issue. I dont actually have a part file for the object as I did a series of conversions from an STL file. I have a DWG of the wireframe, but I expported that DWG as an IGES, and IAM.

1. Given the size of the *.iam you attached, and give the preview I see - it is my opinion that you do have at least 1 ipt file.

2. stl is coarsely faceted planar surfaces - generally of little use in an MCAD software other than for visual reference.  The geometry could (might) be converted to solids with the AutodeskMeshEnabler, but what is the purpose.

3. If you have a dwg - attach a dwg.  If you have an IGES, zip and attach the zipped IGES, - already noted on the IAM that it is my opinion that you probably do have an IPT.

My new recommendation is that you put this project on the back burner for a while and go through the Tutorials.
