selecting save button and getting save as?

Hi Everyone

I'm selecting save and a window comes up asking to save as?

I can seem to get rid of the issue if I hold ctrl at the same time?

any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Any chance you're also using Vault products and the part/assembly/drawing is not checked out? 🙂

If the file has never been saved before, or is set to "read-only", you will get the Save As screen to save as a different file. Verify in Windows Explorer that your file is not locked in such a way, or start a brand new file from your templates to see if the same behavior repeats itself.

@Gabriel_Watson

I checked the files and they are all "unlocked"

still haven't worked it out. sometimes holding down shift works and sometimes ctrl. sometimes it doesn't work at all and I have to select don't save and then re open the part and then I'm allowed to save it as normal.

Are your files located in a network drive or local drive? Do you have any chance of losing connection to where they reside (VPN fails or lack of wi-fi connectivity at the office)?

We are using drop box and there is two of us using the files in drop box at the same time

However they aren't the same jobs but the jobs do however contain standard parts in both? could that crossover and cause it to not save?

The internet connection isn't the best but we are reasonably close to the modem.

You might look into using Vault or a non-cloud file server to manage your Inventor data.  I'm not sure that all the unexpected behaviors have been worked out between Inventor and any random cloud storage provider.
