Mark parts in Inventor 3d cad model and color only these marked parts gray for instructions

We make quick instructions and pictures for customers sometimes via our Inventor 3d cad model by only marking certain parts in a compilation to clarify the instruction.
Set white background and apperance: wireframe with visible edges only and mark selected parts
As it is now these marked parts become blue, it looks decent (see picture "wireframe with visible edges only")

Now to my question 🙂 is there a better way and would prefer that selected parts get a whole color e.g. dark gray (see picture "picture from manual marked parts gray")

Regards,

There could be a way.

Sample assy:

1. Create a view representation "sample" with the parts you want to be in color.

2. Create a new drawing, add a view of that assy with the viewrep shown as shaded.

3. Add an overlay view. Choose Layer "As part" and this time make it non-shaded.

Does the Overlay View need to have a "hidden line calculation" the way that you can do with reference parts?

(hakanW5K7J wouldn't need to worry about that with the specific view in the examples posted, but it took me some time to figure out what "wasn't" wrong with jnowel's picture)

unfortunately, none.
I believe what you may want (in the sample above) is how it treats the portion that is supposed to be inside the other part and therefore should be hidden.
the next step I can think of is to have some "3D Model" extrusion cuts in the assy so only the portion exposed/visible is in shaded color.

I think this is more doable vs doing BOM Reference components (as the structure of the assy/subassy) will not matter.

Going the BOM Reference components, it would look like this.
where one needs to create new assy so only the part shaded are "Normal" and the rest "Reference" BOM.
