Select Feature Filter in IDW Drawings Also Selecting Sheet Metal Edges When Picking Mark Features

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing an issue with the Select Feature filter in Inventor IDW drawings.

When I try to select a mark feature, Inventor ends up selecting additional geometry that is not part of the mark itself — specifically, it also picks up edges from sheet metal components that are visible in the view.

This makes it difficult to isolate and work only with the mark feature, even when the appropriate selection filter is enabled.

Has anyone encountered this behavior before?
Is there a setting, workaround, or best practice to ensure that only the mark feature is selected, without grabbing surrounding geometry?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gustavo,

I can confirm the behavior. It seems that the Feature Priority includes the parent feature geometry also. Are you trying to select the edges and color them differently?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Yes, that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. More specifically, I want to select those edges so I can change their layer (and consequently control their appearance, such as color and line type) directly in the drawing.

Many thanks for your help!

Hi Gustavo,

Many thanks for confirming the intent! Unfortunately, I am not aware of a good solution. Here is an embarrassing workaround you may consider. Create a sketch on the Mark face. project the Mark edges to the sketch. Create a workplane on the Mark face and use Replace Face command to "remove" the Mark edges. You will see the projected sketch geometry. In the drawing, include this projected sketch. You will be able to set it to a layer or change its color easily. I am sorry this is the best I can offer at the moment.

Thanks again!
