Saving Issue

Good afternoon,

I have a recurring issue, very rarely, where I finish working on whatever step of my drawing and hit save, Inventor asks me for the file name, I hit ok, and it just sits.

Inventor does not go into non-responsive mode, but it doesnt allow me to do anything else. All of everything essentially becomes non-responsive with the resounding Windows "GONG" (translated to: NO! YOU CANT DO THAT RIGHT NOW!) until I hit escape. Then Inventor is fully usable again. But its still hasnt saved. Rinse and repeat, same outcome.

So, I first noticed this in 2022 version, now running 2023 this is the first time I have seen it happen.

Any one have any history of this? Fix, whatever? I put way too much time into what I have done to just dump it now and start the drawing over (yes yes, I should save often, but I dont... bad habits and all).

Tks!

-Randy

Hi @Talayoe

It sounds like there is some sort of hidden dialog/alert blocking you from completing the task - can't really be sure unless we can reproduce it.

When you get into this state, can you try pressing ALT+TAB and see if you can cycle through your windows and see if there is any dialog.

If that doesn't work,

a. Are your view in raster mode and computing in the background?

   >> You could try disabling "Enable background updates in App Opts.

b. Are you saving to some network drive and it's not responsive or taking too long?

c. Are there any addins involved?

If nothing works, can you share a video and or dataset to reproduce the issue?

Thanks

Hi Randy,

Do you happen to use two monitors? Could it be the Save dialog sent to the other monitor?

Many thanks!

Good day to both,

Thank you for the responses. Yes, I have multiple monitors. Which is actually interesting in a way.

At work I have my main PC (laptop) which has two monitors attached to it to the right. To check the dialog, before I made this post, I closed everything else and there was no off main screen save dialog. I also windowed inventor and moved it around and tried to save in multiple spots to see if the window showed up behind (forgot about the alt-tab haha). This had no useful result.

But between the two posts that have been put up, I wondered something; At home, where I work a fair bit, I also have dual monitors, but they are stacked above my laptop, so a different configuration. I have had trouble with other  programs in the past showing up above my screen while at work because it locks them onto my home monitors. So again, not having tried the alt-tab thing, I would suspect this might be the case.

Unfortunately I needed to move on to another project yesterday so I printed the drawing up to where I was and force closed it. Thankfully it wasnt a massive job, just a little thing.

I will mark this as closed for now and when/if it happens again, I will update this post.

Thanks both!

-Randy
