We recently (in the past 3 months ) installed Inventor 2014 and it started out working fine but within the past couple of weeks we've been dealing with assembly files NOT saving when hitting the save button, hitting save in the drop down, nor will it attempting a save copy as. Clicking any of these features nothing seems to happen, no messages, no information or little green progress bar on the bottom of the screen, nothing. IF a drawing exists for the assembly I can save there and it filters back to the assembly or checking into the vault forces the issue and gets the save to occur. After a Repair on Inventor (didn't work) and dealing with support on this issue it was suggested I delete the "Inventor 2014" profile out of the users directory and let it recreate it on startup. This seemed work for about a week. Now it's showing up an a few different workstations here including the one previously fixed with the Inventor profile rebuild. I've tried migrations, rebuilds on the models... all the usual suspects. If I open the assemblies on a different workstation saving seems to work fine.
For one reason or another it starts out working and degrades after working on it for a time.
Has anyone dealt with this sort of thing? (I really don't feel like losing the 1/2+ day to delete and reset the the windows user profile)

Hi lscadden,
What is in the Save As Type box? I seem to recall some issue in the past with the Save As Type box defaulting to All File (*.*)
I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,

Originally I thought it a virus of some type also but if so it seems uniquely directed at Inventor only. I have Revit on the same machine also and it's working fine as is AutoCAD etc... and for that matter all other windos finctions seem unafffected.
When attempting "Save Copy As" The dialog box does not appear nothing happens.
Hi lscadden,
Here are a few links that might be related, the first one suggests that Service Pack 1 might be the fix, but it looks like you have that loaded already?:

And I suppose another thing to check it that the dialog is not just coming up off screen (although this doesn't sound right for this situation):

I hope this helps.

According to our install SP 1 Update 1 is already installed.
Not to compound this issue or stray from the subject too far and this may be more a complaint than actual issue but Inventor and the Vault have over the past couple years have been responsible for a few network Profiles being destroyed and rebuilt here. All other windows functions seem unaffected but we suffer failures on some level (in this case not saving) in Inventor or Vault Client. Why Autodesk seems always to be the cause or victim of that issue is a little concerning.

It might not be relevant - but there is an Update 2 for SP1 avialable.
To summarize, you can check in and out without issues.
The issue is saving locally to your local vault workspace.
I am assuming that your local vault workspace is on a local harddrive?
Can you also confirm that all of your Microsoft updates have been applied?
In particular, all of your .NET 4.5 updates.
Can you also check to make sure that the following Vault updates have been applied:
Vault 2014 Service Pack 1
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=DL21897709
Cumulative Hotfix 2 for Autodesk Vault 2014 Service Pack 1
http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=DL22258964
Please check this and let us know.
Thank you.
