Same Part, Different Options

I want to use multi value parameters to have a certain part or subassembly have different options in my larger assembly. We have cabinet doors with the same design that have different heights, widths, materials, and colors. I want to be able to place them in a sub assembly where I can select my height and width and color. The color determines the material, about 5 colors with two materials. I want to be able to update my doors so I don't want to make an iPart since if we swap hinges (effects hole location) I would have to redo each door in existing assemblies. I also want to be able to have my full cabinet be able to be placed in full model. I want the BOM on the full model to show the different options for cabinets. I am so lost, thanks all!

Actually With Inventor you will need to use Ilogic if you don't like Iassembly or Ipart. Many options are available in Ilogic to create a real configurator of your product.

How would I do that?

I would like to have a complete solution for you, but you will need learn about Ilogic, rules and configuration before to doing this. Example, if you create a  text parameter "Color" with "Selection list" your could create a rule that reflect your color options to switch the material and many other rules.

I know a good bit about iLogic, I do not need a code, just a strategy

@tara.ketchum

Post this over in the customization forum. I have seen many examples of this workflow created.

Create ilogic for each assembly or master part and either drive it all from the main assembly or access the form on the subassembly and change it manually.

if you have all the parameters set up that’s have the battle. Just include as much details as possible and I am sure the guys over there will help come up with a good workflow.
