Revamp Autodesk Inventor Drawing Environment

Let me preface this post by stating I am new to Autodesk Inventor (I've been using it for 3-4 months). Although, I've seen improvements within the 3D environment (User Interface, MBD, etc.), The 2D environment, to be honest, lacks similar improvements. I'm making this assessment based off of my experience with other 3D parametric packages (Solidworks, PTC Creo 4.0, and NX).

Although, all CAD softwares, are unique, there is a lot of overlap between features and overall functionality. Listed below are some areas, within the drawing environment I would like to see improvement.

1. Spell Check:

When first utilizing Inventor, I was surprised to see that Inventor did not have that functionality. For most of my co-workers, they copy and past their text into Microsoft Word, perform spell check, then copy and paste the text back into inventor. This is an unnecessary step. Yes, I know there are some third party software that can be installed to assist with this matter. However, This feature should be something that should be embedded in the software.

2. Grouping/Joining text to dimensions

This has been another limitation and disappointment for me within the drawing environment. Although, you have the capability to attach a text annotation to a view, you do not have the same ability to attach the text or group the text to a dimension or another annotation text.

3. GD&T Grouping

Similar to the information I mentioned with grouping/jointing text to dimensions. You should have the same ability to group/join feature control frames to dimensions within the drawing.

4. Flag Notes

This is a feature, within the text environment where you can store local notes, and attach them to notes, balloons etc. When you hover over the note with your mouse, you get a brief summary of the local note. This can be very helpful and reduce confusion between the designer/drafter/engineer updating that specific drawing.

5. Creating text symbols within the text environment:

I would like to see inventor incorporate text symbol, i.e. triangles, squares, circles within the text environment. Having to add these functions outside the text environment can reduce productivity.

This 5 updates are just a few updates I would like to see within Autodesk Inventor. I truly enjoy using the software. However, I feel like these improvements, in my opinion, can take the software from good to great. Thanks!

Any feedback you can provide regarding improvements you would like to see in Inventor, please leave a comment.

You need to post your ideas in the Inventor Idea forum..  Some of those items you would like to see is already there.

Also join the Inventor beta team and see what's coming..

Hi! Indeed, like Mark said, it would be great if you can split the ideas and submit them to Inventor Ideas forum individually. These are all good suggestions. I am seeing at least of the suggestions are in the planning but I cannot specify which.

Many thanks!
