Retrieve dimensions Inventor 2019

I just installed 2019 and noticed a problem on dimensioning sheetmetal parts in drawing mode

I often use "Retrieve model annotations" but now the flange length do not appear in this function

For instance this part in picture are almost impossible to manually place dimensions correct

Onestly Inventor are really bad on placing inventor in this type of simple sheet metal profiles

Or how should I do it?

Hi!

When you use the tool Retrieve dimensions, inventor will only look at the dimensions you used in the sketch.

Also will check only the sketches thatv you use in the same direction as the drawing view. (For different views, it will check different sketches due to this direction, and make it sense)

I believe the flange you did was an operation in the 3d model, not a sketch dimension, therefore, it will be not available to retrieve.

It is a known issue.

I reported this back a few months ago but after 2 service patches it is still not fixed and it is driving me nuts.

If you go to the model and right click on the flange and show dimensions you will not see the dimensions there ether.

My flange length should be shown but it is not, happened after the 1st service patch came out I believe is when I caught it.

@johnsonshiue was to be getting this fixed but it may take a few releases.

Sure does screw up workflows.

Hello @Mustang69 Can you attach the part and drawing to make sure we are testing with the same modeling technique?

I drew a 6x2@Face>Thickness then added a 1"Flange. When I tried to Retrieve Model Annotations the length was brought it in.

Also, the model browser Show Dimensions seems to work as well.

Have you applied the most recent Inventor Updates?

Hi James,

Thanks for your sarcasm! I like it. A little humor does not hurt. Actually, this is indeed a known issue in 2019. It has been fixed in 2019.2. Please install 2019.2 and model dimension workflows should work.

Many thanks!

Hi James,

This is strange. It seems to work for me on 2019.2 but I created it from scratch. Could you do a Rebuild All? Does it work now?

Many thanks!

Johnson

@Mustang69 tried many different ways and it always pulls the length of the flange.

Not doubting that you are experiencing it, but cannot replicate so not sure what would be going on. If you can record a screencast showing the behavior for development that would be helpful.

Don't think that Repair Install would help but is always an option. If you have a data set to share with Pack & Go that might help us investigate further.

Sure here you have the example part attached + video

This one did not retrieve one simple sketch dimension.
In the example i did not manually put in any value for the sketch dimensions....But if I input sketch dimensions they will come up when retrieving

BTW my experience started 1997 with Mechanical Desktop so I run Inventor continuously since the day of first release.

Autidesk should award me for long time serve by naming next version after my forum name!  🙂

Hello @Mustang69,

Pulled down the data and check the property, it was created and saved in 2019 RTM build. If you open the data in Inventor 2019.2 and click rebuild all to recompute all features, the distance is back. So, please upgrade to 2019.2 to fix it.

Hope it helps!

Just updated

It works better but still missing dimensions so problem not really solved.

Why is it so hard placing a dimensions on odd angles?

The most simplest and mandatory  task feels really hard to do

@johnsonshiue

Yes models made in 2019.2 show and rebuild is working on migrated parts.

I call it a half fix though seeing I have to do something to get it to work.

4 more clicks Smiley Tongue

I will inform client.
