Renumbering (not overriding) parts and assemblies through the BOM table

Im trying to figure out how to renumber parts in inventor 2025. Ive been using previous versions for a few years, and it used to be that if you renumbered a part in the parts list it could either be left as a drawing specific override, or it could be pushed out to the BOM table, in which case it would actually renumber the item. As in, a property assigned directly to the part or assembly. Now I update to 2025, and its calling it an override in the BOM view? Its blue? In previous versions that was a sign that the value had not been updated in the part. I dont want to override, I want to renumber. Did they remove this function?? Also why cant I use the selection option in the renumbering tool? Its greyed out...

Hi Allen,

I believe there is indeed a change in behavior since 2023/2024. The renumbering is also considered an override.

Many thanks!

Have you experienced whether that override is tied to the part? Its going to create issues for me if I have to constantly remember to reassign the correct bom number for each drawing i use the parts in...

Hi Allen,

"Blue" is simply an indication that the value was manually modified, with no change in functionality. (The renumber command can clear it.)

why do we want to give an indicator?

"Renumber Items Sequentially" was introduced to renumber automatically unsuppressed items when some components are suppressed.

but, if the item number was ever modified manually ("Blue"), this "renumber automatically" will retain its value.

Thanks!
