Rendering quality

What happened to rendering in Inventor? Ten years ago it was possible to create quick renders with photorealistic textures and accurate reflections on flat and curved surfaces. Now everything looks as if it has been sandblasted, whatever adjustments have been made or however long it takes.

The product has made many improvements during this time and my hardware is much more powerful, but the quality of rendering seems to have gone backwards, which means that presenting ideas to clients is poorer. Why?

HI!

No one can answer that, just say you're completely right. 😖

I miss so much SHOWCASE... Why Autodesk kill this software without giving a satisfactory alternative...

I haven't worked with the old inventor rendering tools. However, I believe the "Lighting and Material Accuracy" setting is what you want to change, maybe anti-aliasing too (Found under Render Image -> Renderer). The Lighting and Material Accuracy setting is what changes the grainy look on my machine. The low quality setting removes the grainy look and the process is much faster.

Thanks for your input, but I have tried all that.
Here’s an example of what I could do in less than a minute, without any messing about:

[mirrors 02]

The reflections in those convex chrome mirrors are precisely optically accurate.
Do show me if you can do this.

Kind Regards

Hi Jamie

Although I added an image in my email reply, I have tried in vain to show it in this forum!

Hi! Another option is to try the GPU rendering in 2023. In a part or an assembly, go to View -> Visual Style -> Realistic -> enable Ray Tracing. If your machine has a dedicated GPU, it will be rendered using GPU.

Many thanks!

I have used the ray tracer on its highest settings, and the results are nowhere near as good as what used to be easily and rapidly achievable.
Please look closely at these two images, one of which shows both concave and convex chromed mirrors, often showing reflections within reflections. (I never really knew why the overall environment displays a car park, but that is not the point - from the point of view of the client the effect of using curved mirrors is evident.)
Furthermore, I used to be able to demonstrate what semi-translucent and fluorescent versions of objects would look like, which is impossible to reproduce with Inventor 2023.
I am using:

Scan 3XS Workstation
Processor: Intel Core i9-7940X CPU @ 3.10GHz
Overclocked to 4.20 GHz
Installed RAM: 32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)
Display: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
Windows 11
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I am paying 2.3K Sterling per year to use this software, so I am very disappointed how rendering has made a giant leap backwards.

When I look at my last post the images are not viewable, so I am trying again.
